The modifications below were done years ago. I don’t remember part numbers, suppliers and other details. You should not attempt to replicate any of these mods unless you possess the ingenuity to pull it off on your own. We have no need for the upper folding bunks. They can be left down and used for storage shelves, but that makes the RV too claustrophobic. I modified the front bi-fold bunk by removing the rear half of the bunk. The two halves are held together by a piano hinge and come apart with the removal of some screws.

Because of the differences in plugs and receptacles, it would be virtually impossible to plug a V system into a V supply. You would have to intentionally rewire or create an invalid adapter cable. More likely would be an incorrectly-wired receptacle.

Huge park, miles of gorgeous trails, tons of wildlife, and peaceful. We stayed in the only big rig friendly, full hookup camp ground in the park which is Palmetto Ridge. Every pull through site is large enough for the longest rig and tow, as are most of the back in sites.

Raise the jack to take some of the weight off the tire. The brakes have been factory-calibrated for smooth, positive response. The greater the electrical current from the brake controller, the greater the braking force applied to the trailer brake drums. Trailer Driving Techniques Never use the tow vehicle brakes alone. Driving control is also severely affected when tow vehicle brakes are used alone, due to the force of the trailer pushing against the tow vehicle. Page 23 Heavy cross winds, particularly gusts in canyons or at other exposed locations, can cause excessive trailer swaying or loss of control.

Under these conditions, reduce speed to maintain control. However, if you must park on a grade, follow these steps: Apply the tow vehicle foot brake.

We certainly do, but there are some things to consider when hooking up to the pedestal at an RV park. There is a difference between the way that we look at electricity for our home as compared to the way we look at electricity in a RV park. At home, we assume that the electricity coming from the power company will be a pretty constant volts and 60 hertz.

We always reserve one of the full hook-up sites that are paved, reasonably level with a good hook-up pedestal, and that is appropriately positioned. The satellite TV reception is OK, but not great; and the antenna TV reception is poor.

I thought I would go into a little more detail on prepping our rig for the upcoming extended journey. We spend anywhere from four to six months each year camped out in multiple locations chasing the sun. In fact, it was in a storage yard. Check out the photo. A standard 3-prong household electric outlet provides amp service sometimes also referred to as amp service. Most medium-sized RVs usually with only one air-conditioning unit have amp service, which uses a larger three-prong plug with two of the prongs at an angle. Larger RVs usually with two or three air conditioners utilize higher-power amp service, with larger, 4-prong plugs.

We always loop our power cord once around the base of the pedestal, offering a bit of protection in case someone trips over the cord. Ensure your connections are secure and running downhill from the RV all the way to the campsite hookup.

Polk Somebody recently asked me what I enjoyed the most about RVing. It didn’t take long for me to respond that it was the people you meet at the campground. I don’t know of anywhere else that you can meet complete strangers and within a couple of hours feel as if you’ve known them forever. People at campgrounds are some of the friendliest most helpful people you will ever meet. I have seen it time and again when a camper pulls in and they are having problems with something and their next door neighbor, whom they never met, is right there to assist them.

I have also observed and assisted several campers who were new to RVing and not really sure how to set their unit up when they arrive at the campground. While talking to these new Rvers it came up more than once how they wished that they had a checklist to follow to make things easier. However most RVs do have many things in common and that is what we will concentrate on. The purpose of this checklist is to provide a basic system of what to do when you arrive at your site.

Use only the items that apply to your RV and feel free to tailor the list to your needs.

We absolutely loved our time on the road. So much so it has since become into our day to day existence, wandering the US and Canada as full-time RV nomads. However, once we started to really live in it we quickly realized there were many things lacking. Over the last few years as we could afford it we have been steadily adding upgrades and improving our Cougar. Here are 20 upgrades we have made to our RV. Hopefully you might take away a few ideas for your own RV.

We love to boondock dry camp without hookups so you will find a fair number of the upgrades are geared towards that. Others just make living day to day in the RV a little nicer. This has helped out a lot when dry camping by saving us valuable battery power and improving the visibility of the trailer at night or during foggy days.

For the internal LED lights I went mostly with a warm Kelvin color which comes closest to a regular incandescent lamp. Not all LEDs are created equal. An interesting benefit of this upgrade was longer fixture life. The original lamps ran so hot they were melting or making the plastic connectors very brittle on our most often used fixtures. I went with an entry level watt kit from a company called Renogy.

Please remember that this applies to ALL wire associated with RV wiring whether it is the wiring from the breaker(s) to the socket or receptacle, the umbilical from the RV to the socket or the wiring inside the RV.

This includes lots of electrical appliances and devices. Watts, or overall power, is a product of current, or amps, and voltage. If you want to know how many different electrical devices you can have on at one time in your RV or in your home, for that matter , this formula will tell you. As long as you stay under the amount of available wattage, your circuits will run smoothly. The volt system is powered by an RV electrical hookup plug or a generator, and it powers daily use items like kitchen appliances, your TV, and other electrical appliances.

This can be achieved with a single 12 volt battery or several 12 volt batteries wired together in a parallel circuit. However, using two 6 volt batteries wired together in a series circuit to essentially create a 12 volt battery is typically better than using a single 12 volt battery. The trade-off for using two 6 volt batteries is that two batteries take up more space than one.

However, that trade-off may be worth it if your camping needs require that extended battery life. Almost all RVs come with a power cord to plug into the electrical pedestal at a campground campgrounds with available hookups, anyway. They come in two amperages: A 30 amp cord has three prongs, and a 50 amp has four. While many campgrounds do have RV electrical hook ups for both 50 amp and 30 amp cords, some campgrounds have only 30 amp hookups available.
